FASHION FRIDAY: Week Six – ASYMMETRY
Posted on February 10, 2012 by Jen Basford
asymmetrical patterns, hems, and cuts are not new to the fashion world. but they are on the scene again this spring.
the think i love about these break-the-rules lines is that they are freeing from the rigid lines of symmetry. it is both bohemian and sophisticated in one look, which gives you many options when choosing outfits for a particular occasion. i’m drawn to things in general that challenge the norm, so a fashion trend that represents that is inspiring.
asymmetry is bold, experimental, free, classy, and timeless. we’ll see this trend appear again and again over time, as it is highly fashionable, feminine and attractive (which is almost always in style).
i saw several examples of asymmetrical hems in a brand new anthropologie store i was in today from diagonal cut hems on a top, to graduated hems on a dress. the column dress also has a taste of asymmetry in it’s diagonal lines as well.
for asymmetrical dresses, pair them with a set of stiletto heels or strappy sandals for a great confident look. wanting to experiment with something more casual? toss on a pair of gladiators to add to the bohemian look.
peace and popsicles -
