FASHION FRIDAY: Week Two – the Infinity Scarf
Posted on January 13, 2012 by Jen Basford
growing up my mom has ALWAYS worn scarves. and i always HATED scarves. don’t get me wrong – my mom always looked amazing and very well put together when she added a scarf to her ensemble. but they were always those silk scarves that bring to mind images of my grandma these days. she wore them well. but they were never my style.
but then somehow things changed. it got COLD. scarves took on a new meaning to me (utilitarian warmth anyone?). so i would wear them. grudgingly. then my mom began making me the coolest scarves ever that were both warm AND fun. knitted scarves. and a whole new world opened up.
i started wearing scarves with everything. they can turn a t-shirt into an OUTFIT. and when you’re rushed for time or traveling a lot, that is CRITICAL. because when you love fashion and style as much as i do, you want to do something with your t-shirts.
this year the infinity scarves TOOK. OVER. they’re not brand new, but the trend exploded. it’s perfect for EVERYONE. seriously. because tying a ‘typical’ scarf can sometimes be daunting (my favorite scarf currently is my knee length oversized multi-colored free people scarf that requires NO tying, instead it simply hangs around my shoulders for a commanding presence all on its own), it means anyone can look like they’ve got it together.
the infinity scarf – also known as the circle scarf – has no ends. it is simply one big circle (thus the ‘infinity’ in case you haven’t caught on to that one yet). and just when i thought you couldn’t do anything ‘different’ with an infinity scarf, i found this video on cool ways to wear it. and i’m sure there are more. i’ve also seen these looped around your head for a combo scarf/headwrap. TRENDY. FASHIONABLE. FUN. LOVE.
some of my favorite places to get these? h&m, madewell, armani exchange, zappos, and your favorite local boutique. seriously – these are EVERYWHERE. check out this celebrity video for a basic idea too – love the simplicity.
peace and popsicles -
